EN & JP Honolulu Festival 2014 - First Day

Packed up to fly to Honolulu.
I can't forget the Naruko (Japanese castanets) and the tabi (a pair of Japanese traditional shoes).

Here we are!!
(Talasi, who was already in Honolulu picked us up with a rental car.)

Yay!

We first went to a Japanese supermarket called Marukai.
Wow, there were almost everything...
Naoko got a donabe (this clay pot).

Even some items for Buddhist altars.

Hibachi was there, too.

This photo doesn't have much point.
I was just surprised to see the water all the way to
the very, very top of the bottle when I opened it.
That's all.

After we had a breakfast, we headed Ulupo Heiau (heiau is a sacred, ceremonial place created by Hawaiian people a long time ago) in Kailua to see our friend.

This is one of my favorite photos from this trip.
My beautiful sisters

Oahu has an image of a big city, but once you step out of Waikiki,
you could see a view like this.
When you come to Oahu, please visit outside of Waikiki, too.

We rehearsed our dance next to the heiau.

With the spirit of heiau, we danced for a world harmony.

Here is our friend's baby. Super cute.

After we said good bye to our friend, we went to a nearby beach.
It was a cloudy day, and it even rained, but we scored a moment of sunshine.

Happy!

The ocean!

Ah, look at this color.

Cute islands

We stayed there for about 20 minutes.

We had our lunch at a casual Indian restaurant.

Then we drove back to Waikiki, checked in at our hotel, refreshed ourselves,
and headed to the Alamoana Shopping Center to watch our friends perform.

We reunited with our friend, Shinya who is a visual artist and his lovely wife, Asami.
We were quite colorful.

And here is a video of a soulful performance by the Suga Izanai Yosakoi Ren from Japan!

After we watched their great performance, we went to a Japanese restaurant
called Tairyo near the Alamoana Shopping Center.

I don't usually drink alcohol, but I wanted to drink with everyone, so
I ordered the least alcohol content drink, plum sake.
But after 5 minutes or so, my face turned red, and hives came out.
I gave up. Since then, my arms were itchy for like a week.
I went to see an acupuncturist to heal it.
I think that my body had a very low tolerance to alcohol at that time
due to a super busy schedule I had leading up to that festival and the fact
that I don't usually drink.

Then we went back to the hotel and relaxed.
Although we flew there all the way from Maui, we didn't feel like going out to have
a taste of Honolulu's night scene or to do shopping.

Here are my sisters I want to brag!
Aren't they beautiful?

We did a couple of facial packs (black and green).

If there were people like these when you use a bathroom at night,
it would be scary, huh?

------------------------------------

This is how our fun evening was spent.
I laughed so much to the point I had to cry.
I loved hanging out with these really fun and kind friends I dearly love.
I went to Honolulu to perform a Japanese dance, but it turned out to be a really luxurious weekend with a great company, which I needed.

After this, I could even take a long hot bath.
(I don't have a bathtub at home.)
I felt so relaxed in the hot water.
